Recent developments in turbulent flow control will be discussed through a
presentation of experimental results which have been obtained at the University
of Nottingham ayer the last five years. A particular emphasis will be given to
the use of surface plasma for controlling turbulent boundary layers for skin-
friction reduction and delaying flow separation ayer a bluff body. Surface
plasma is an emerging technique in active flow control, which has a unique
ability to create a body force under atmospheric condition. Surface plasma
actuators are simple, lightweight and fast acting, which are flexible enough to
be configured in many ways to suit required applications.
